Ever since young, i had this fascination for ancient history of different nations: Ancient Greece, Rome and China. I am fascinated by how kings and emperors ruled their empires ,stories or values that happened during their reign. I have this thirst for what i view as military science of ancient armies. I like to compare what our ancestors and the modern human have achieved and discover for myself if we are really that advanced which we call ourselves that.
Most importantly, i know that by delving into history i discover my roots and my ancestral achievements. I learnt that who are you is not affected by your past but what you or your ancestors have done that you should take pride in it. As a child, i often had this mentality that the western countries were superior to the asian nations. I mean look at them, they have a high standard of living, they dominated and set the trend for the industries and there was this “ang-moh is the best” thought that was often being used as a joke in movies. I thought, are we really that inferior to the western nations?
It took me a while to finally understand that while that we, Chinese or any other cultures, aren’t inferior afterall. I knew this by heart but i needed concrete proof to assure me this. It was after watching several discovery channel shows that i realised that what my Chinese ancestors did in the past is astounding by today’s standards…
The Terracotta Army located within China, Xian is one such example that should serve as a vivid reminder that the Chinese culture was and is still as proud as history have shown us. For those who do not know, Qin Shi Huang united China and created this life-like army that was supposed to safeguard him in the netherworld. To many historians, this showed them a great opportunity of knowing how the First Emperor of China was in the past. He commanded great power that allowed to him to undertake a monumental task of creating a terracotta army each statue with a different characteristics and the building of a necropolis that remains unearthed today. And take this as a fact, there’s no other counterpart in the world…
In the next post, lets take a deeper look into the Qin army that was pivotal in helping the Emperor unite China and even was chosen as an escort into the afterlife. Trust me, what this army had and did will be breathtaking. Military science i would say.

I was really fasinacted with Roman and Greek ancient civilizations and also the mythological aspects too. That’s why games like Titan Quest, Zeus: Master of Olympus, Pharoah, and any Roman city builder are especially attractive for me.:)
There was also a city builder game that was modelled closely after this period of Chinese (ancient) history, this one: Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/emperorriseofthemk/index.html?q=emperor&tag=result;title;3). The game wasn’t without flaws, but it felt reasonably aligned with artifacts, visuals, and themes of history in China at that point in time.:)
