Battle of Wesnoth

Tired of paying $50-70 for a computer game that may not be that attractive or lack the OOMPH factor you think it was supposed to have? Then try this free game: Battle of Wesnoth

Battle of Wesnoth is a turn-based strategy game (TBS). Wesnoth have many campaign that comes along with the download and each campaign can be as short as 5 missons or the more well-developed ones have up till like 25 missions.

Wesnoth takes a fantasy-medieval world as the game world and one can find any races that are commonly known like elves, orcs, dragons, nagas and merfolk. The interesting that Wesnoth have is that units at first are recruited and gain experience as they ascend the levels. While basic at first, units can eventually “evolve” to be more powerful unit. For example, horsemen -> lancer/knight; knight -> paladin/grand knight. Each unit is able to walk a “certain path” which affects the strength and weaknesses and suit the needs of the players. Units are also affected by the terrain they are on. Certain races gain bonus evasion when in the forest while others are more adaptable in water.

The graphics of Wesnoth is reminscent of the games that you actually find on Nintendo games but trust me, its way better than it. Each unit is well-created and that it looks pleasing to the eye.

However, if you want to enjoy a game that has no time limit then Wesnoth is perhaps not really a choice for you. For each of the campaigns within it, many of them have a time limit or number of turns in which you must accomplish the main objectives or you know…

So bored and tired and wanna try a new game? Give Battle of Wesnoth a shot and see first hand how its like.

PS. Did i mention that our class used to play this game during lab?
