I shall be talking of the wonderful subject Business of Computer Games, otherwise known as BSCG! This subject, BSCG, is thus far in my humble opinion the most intriguing and interesting subject I’ve had the privilege to study in my 2+ years here. (I’m 2 weeks into my 3rd year now.) Anyway, we’ve been very lucky to have lecturers who come from the industry, who as such know their stuff. As in, they really do know it!
I confess to having a very closed-eyed view previously of game development. I’ve read gamespot reviews, gamasutra articles, and many other game-related materials online, as well as textbooks that we’ve purchased (mostly for the purpose of developing games, though). If this class with our current lecturer shows us the tip of the iceberg, information regarding the gaming industry wise, then what I’ve known before might be comparable to an ice-cube fresh out of the freezer.
Anyway, Coburn was nominated CEO of our fictional company, and I was chosen to be his COO. 3 other classmates in our group are the CFO, CTO and CMO. Already, its sounding interesting, yes? =D We have weekly meetings to discuss the final submission for this subject, as well as ‘count-money’ as we affectionally term all monetary related issues, among others.
It was fine planning to have this subject, a completely non-technical one, placed alongside 2 technical ones in our 3rd year. I feel myself looking forward to attending it every night, because its just so different!
